The Song of Inanna 伊南娜之歌

Who we are

The Song of Inanna is made by a small team of women creators. Between us we handle the original fiction, the historical research, the retelling, the illustrated audiobooks, the AI imagery, the video editing and the archiving that holds it together.

Of the seven novels, Jinming wrote Western Story, Bread and Roses, Where She Goes, Death of a Gladiatrix and Before the Goliath Sinks; Dr Mary and Jinming wrote Do Not Question together; and Aki, who usually edits our films, wrote Against the Current.

What we make

Everything starts as an original novel with women at its centre. From there the text becomes an illustrated audiobook, an AI-made film, a set of visual designs, and the research notes that stand behind it.

Why this site exists

This site holds the original texts, the project records, the research, the thinking behind the work, and a long-term index. The platforms are for distribution — posts, videos, audiobooks and running updates.

About the translations

We write in Chinese. It is our first language, and it is where these stories are most alive and most exact.

But we also want them to travel. In our stories, the women that fiction so often forgets, sidelines or flattens into stereotypes choose their own fate and carry it, alone or alongside other women. Stories like that deserve more than one language. We are a small team, and if all seven novels had to wait for a human translator, most of them would not leave Chinese for years. So we have been bringing them into English and Japanese ourselves, one book at a time, with the help of AI.

We try hard to keep each book as it was written: names and terms are settled before we start, the sentences stay short and plain, there are no footnotes, and every story keeps its own narrative voice. It will not be perfect. If something reads oddly, or if you would like to help a passage read better, we would love to hear from you. And if you ever want to meet a story in the original, the Chinese is one click away at the top of every page.
